registered design

registered design
A registered design is granted by the Designs Registry of the Patent Office under the Registered Designs Act 1949 and protects for up to twenty five years the outward shape or decorative appearances of a product where "eye-appeal" or aesthetic qualities are important aspects of the design.

registered design
a form of intellectual property and now governed by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. A design right covers any part of the design of a product and does not require registration, but it must be original and have been expressed tangibly. Registered designs must have eye-appeal, and the protection is attracted to aesthetic concepts rather than artistic works, which tend to attract copyright. The design must be new before it can be registered.
