case management discussions (CMDs)
Known as Directions Hearings until 1 October 2004. CMDs are hearings held by an employment tribunal to deal with the future conduct and progress of a claim, or to address specific issues such as disclosure or scheduling of a hearing date. In complex cases, a CMD will generally be fixed by an employment tribunal as a matter of course but a CMD may also be held in response to a request from a party for an order to be made. A CMD will be conducted by a chairman sitting alone, and may be held in private.
