common carrier
a person who publicly undertakes to carry any goods or persons for payment on the routes operated. A common carrier is under duties to carry everyone who offers to pay his charges and to answer as an insurer for everything carried. However, a carrier is not a common carrier if he holds himself out as ready to carry for the public at large only in connection with some other business to which the carriage of goods is merely ancillary.
