Copyright Act

Copyright Act
USA
The basis for all copyright law in the US, which protects original intellectual and artistic works in diverse categories, including books and magazines, music, movies, computer software and websites. These works are subject to copyright protection by virtue of being fixed in a tangible medium, whether they are published or unpublished, for a limited period of time that varies according to the circumstances. The owner of a copyright has the exclusive right to reproduce, perform, display, license and prepare derivative works based on the protected work.
The Act is administered by the US Copyright Office.
