A document that describes the nature of communications, documents or other tangible things being withheld from disclosure in litigation under the attorney-client privilege, attorney work product doctrine or other applicable privilege or protection. A privilege log may accompany a party's (or non-party's) written objections in response to another party's request for production of documents or other tangible things. Rule 26(b)(5) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure governs the use of privilege logs in federal civil litigation.
