Best Management Practices

Best Management Practices
Best Management Practices (BMP)
USA
A broad term encompassing resource use techniques recognized as the most practical and effective means of controlling or treating related pollutants. To be designated as a BMP, a practice should take into account the protection of air and water quality, wildlife and scenery. The Clean Water Act (CWA) refers to BMPs in several sections in reference to waste water treatment programs, stormwater controls and toxic pollutant controls related to industrial discharges. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has used these references in defining BMPs for permit regulation purposes, Congress has not defined the term.
