entry clearance

entry clearance
a visa, entry certificate or other document that, in accordance with the immigration rules, is to be taken as evidence of a person's eligibility, although not a British citizen, for entry into the UK (Immigration Act 1971, Section 331). An entry certificate is not a work permit.
