collective licensing

collective licensing
Certain everyday activities such as photocopying or playing music in public can be copyright infringement under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 if not licensed. To avoid the need to deal with each copyright owner individually, copyright collectives including the Phonographic Performance List (PPL)(sound recordings) and the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA)(photocopying) can give a blanket licence for all those right holders represented by their organisation.
