A federal agency charged with administering the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), the principal federal law governing union and private employer relations. The NLRB's primary duties are conducting elections to determine union representation of employees and enforcing the NLRA's prohibition on unfair labor practices. The NLRB is empowered to investigate, adjudicate and remedy unfair labor practices.
Claims before the NLRB are adjudicated by individuals appointed by the President and approved by the Senate to sit on the five member Board for a term of five years.
