private carrier

private carrier
a carrier who operates under a particular contract in each case and who may choose whether to accept or reject any request to carry. In the absence of a special term in the contract, a private carrier probably has no lien over the goods of a consignor. The Carriers Act 1830 does not apply to private carriers. See common carrier.
