This term has different meanings under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 (UCTA) and the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) (SGA) on the one hand, and under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (Unfair Terms Regulations) on the other:• Under UCTA and the SGA, it is defined in the context of dealing as a consumer (section 12, UCTA) and in the context of a consumer sale (Schedule 1, SGA).
