over-the-counter

over-the-counter
(OTC)
Not traded on an exchange. The OTC market for derivatives or other investments is created outside organised exchanges, by parties (such as companies, banks and dealers) entering into contracts directly with each other. This enables the parties to tailor the terms of the derivatives to match particular transactions. OTC securities are not listed or traded on an organised stock market. Examples of OTC trading facilities are the US OTC Bulletin Board and the Pink Sheets.
