Director of Consumer Affairs

Director of Consumer Affairs
a post in the Republic of Ireland created by the Consumer Information Act 1978, the holder of which is appointed by the appropriate minister to carry out certain functions independently. These include keeping under review advertising practices, controlling trade practices that might mislead consumers and encouraging the adoption of codes of practice by trade and industry. The Director has more recently acquired the powers of the Examiner of Restrictive Practices to deal with agreements restricting the supply of goods and services.
