witness order

witness order
In the context of employment law, an order issued by an employment tribunal that a certain witness is required to attend a hearing. Failure to attend the tribunal when under a witness order is a criminal offence. An application for a witness order should be made to the tribunal in writing. In the civil courts such orders are known as witness summons, and prior to the introduction of the Civil Procedure Rules they were known as a subpoena ad testificum.
