building warrant

building warrant
a document authorising certain building work. Under the Building (Scotland) Act 1959, 1970, almost all building work requires to be approved by the appropriate authority and a building warrant obtained. Failure to have such a warrant can mean the building is demolished; those involved in conveyancing are thus often concerned to see that any work has been so authorised.
