1. it is used sometimes to describe orders keeping named persons out of the UK.
2. in English law, the court has the power to order the exclusion of either spouse from the matrimonial home if it appears to the court that the making of the order is necessary for the protection of the applicant or of any child of the family from any conduct or threatened conduct or reasonably apprehended conduct of the other spouse that is or would be injurious to the physical or mental health of the applicant or child.
In Scots family law, part of the regime established to protect the victims of domestic violence in relation to the occupation of a matrimonial home. The court can exclude on an interim or permanent basis a violent spouse, regardless of whether the person owns the house or is the tenant. The court will do so if it is necessary for the protection of the applicant or any child of the family as a result of any conduct or threatened or reasonably apprehended conduct of the other spouse that is or would be injurious to the physical or mental health of the applicant or child.
