Another term for an underwriting member of Lloyd's. Names are required to meet certain Lloyd's means (personal solvency) requirements and are responsible for meeting their shares of any losses made by the syndicates on which they participate and are entitled to any profits. Names join together, for periods of a year at a time, in syndicates in order to participate in the results of business written, under the control of managing agencies (managing agent), by underwriters.
