self-regulating organisation

self-regulating organisation
The now defunct organisations that regulated investment business in the UK. The former SROs were the Securities and Futures Authority (SFA), the Investment Management Regulatory Organisation (IMRO) and the Personal Investment Authority (PIA). When the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 came into force on 1 December 2001, the SROs ceased to have regulatory functions and the Financial Services Authority (FSA) became the single regulator for the UK financial services industry.
